Five successful applicants of the £2,500 digital grant

Last year, Futures were selected by Ashfield District Council to distribute a Digital Infrastructure Grant Scheme to support Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations that have premises in the Ashfield District.

After a detailed application process, five local organisations have been chosen as the recipients, each receiving £2,500 to spend on technology so they are able to provide digital facilities to their service users.

These organisations are working hard to equip people with the digital tools they need to unlock new opportunities, increase employability, and develop a more connected community.

Thrive Together

Thrive Together is using their grant to purchase laptops and software designed to support neurodivergent individuals. By providing tools that can adapt to the specific needs of these individuals, they aim to simplify interactions, reduce stress, and create a more positive experience when using technology. This initiative will help ensure that neurodivergent individuals are not left behind when it comes to digital access and will empower them to navigate the digital world with ease.

Portland Pathways (Portland College)

Portland Pathways is focused on addressing a key barrier for many individuals in the economically inactive community: the lack of access to a computer or internet. The grant will enable them to purchase additional laptops, allowing more individuals to apply for jobs and access online opportunities that were previously out of reach. By increasing the number of laptops available, Portland Pathways is helping to level the playing field for those facing digital exclusion and supporting their beneficiaries in building brighter employment prospects.

Ashfield Voluntary Action (AVA)

Ashfield Voluntary Action is committed to fostering community spirit and empowering local residents through digital access. The grant will enable AVA to purchase a printer and Microsoft 365 licences for the Coxmoor Residents Action Group (CRAG). This equipment will help CRAG, a group focused on improving the Coxmoor estate and encouraging neighbourliness, to bring their vision to life. With access to better technology, CRAG will be able to engage with the community more effectively, share information, and support their efforts to create a stronger, more self-sufficient community.

Our Centre

For over 40 years, Our Centre has been dedicated to supporting older people in Ashfield, offering a variety of activities and services that keep individuals engaged, active, and connected. With the help of the grant, Our Centre will purchase laptops and virus protection software to ensure their beneficiaries have access to essential online services, including job search opportunities and social engagement activities. This initiative will also support their volunteers and provide better digital access for those wishing to participate in the Centre’s activities.

Citizens Advice Central Notts

Citizens Advice Central Notts is focused on reducing the impact of digital exclusion in Ashfield, particularly in post-industrial areas where many residents are struggling with financial and social exclusion. The grant will allow them to purchase laptops, improving access to advice, resources, and employment opportunities for individuals who are otherwise digitally excluded. By enhancing digital access, Citizens Advice is helping to combat the isolation and financial strain that comes with being cut off from the digital world, empowering residents to navigate their personal and financial challenges more effectively.

These organisations are making incredible strides in the fight against digital exclusion, each using the £2,500 grants to create meaningful, lasting change in their communities. By equipping individuals with the tools they need to access education, employment, and social opportunities, they are helping to build a more inclusive, connected future for everyone.

At Futures, we’re proud to support these initiatives and look forward to seeing the positive impact of these grants on the lives of local residents. Together, we can continue to break down the barriers of digital exclusion and create opportunities for all.
