Discussing the needs of our community in Nottinghamshire

Richard Butler, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, visited Futures Mansfield to witness firsthand the impact of our comprehensive employment support services and have open discussion on the needs of our communities.

Futures have had a presence in Mansfield for many years and are committed to providing tailored, holistic pathways for people to find employment and develop necessary life skills.

During Counceller Butlers visit, he commended Futures for its impressive track record, particularly noting that 95% of customers sustain employment after completing a Sector Based Work Academy programme.

He commented “It’s all about confidence, and that’s exactly what you’re getting here.” Further highlighting how the Mansfield centre programmes not only equip people with practical skills but also build the self assurance necessary to succeed in the workplace.

Amanda Payne, Director at Futures Advice, spoke on the unique and interconnected services offered here at Futures.

The uniqueness of our services here is that our divisions feed into each other. It’s a full circle from careers advice through to training and job interviews. This seamless integration is why the community trust Futures."

Councellor Butler was particularly interested in Futures commitment to working collaboratively with a network of other local service providers.

Chris Grocock from Futures explained the organisations role as a broader tapestry of community support. “We always direct customers to the most suitable provision, even if that isn’t ours, such as construction or manufacturing at Nottingham College. Part of ensuring people move into sustainable employment is making sure it’s right for them in the first place.

There was particularly passionate discussion on Futures approach to public misconceptions. Futures work continually to ensure that people understand careers advice isnt just for young people. “People don’t stay in one career for their life anymore, in fact the average person will have five careers. So being continually informed at all stages of life is essential!” said Councellor Butler.

Futures work closely with district and county councils in a variety of ways, one of which is reviewing CV’s of our customers to place them in suitable employment. It’s part of a vital task to ensure that the public sector in Mansfield reflects the people of Mansfield.

Richard Butler comments:

The work Futures do in preparing employers for the local workforce is key in forming strong, last relationships. It’s all about support here but with empowerment as the goal.
